Sponsored by Lindstrom/Stelfast

The application of Platings and Coatings is one of the most important post-production processes that fasteners receive. They enhance the performance and appearance of fasteners and are one of the most important value-added services that fastener suppliers provide.

In order to deliver this service with profitability and control the associated risk it is vital that fastener suppliers understand plating and coating specifications.

There have been some significant recent changes to the specifications we use for plating and coating fasteners. These are not minor changes – it is information you need to know to properly process your plated/coated product and to manage the associated risk.

Owners, Managers, Quality Assurance, Sales and Purchasing Personnel need this training program. This is important content even if your company does not engage directly in post-processing of your fastener product. It is especially important to those companies who assist their customers in selecting fastener finishes, specify finishes for their own products, and to shops that provide plating and coating services for fasteners.

  • You know there are two popular chromate conversion coatings for zinc plating but do you know what they are and the difference between them?
  • You know there are two ASTM specs for zinc plating but do you know what they are and the difference between them?

In the Fastener Platings & Coatings training program you’ll get those answers and much, much more – including:

  • How to recognize coating call-outs in specifications and drawings
  • What are the differences between inch and metric coating specifications
  • What are the reasons that engineers specify particular coatings for fasteners
  • How do coatings affect the corrosion performance of fasteners
  • How do coatings affect the torque-tension performance of fasteners
  • How do coatings affect the dimensional properties of fasteners – especially drives and threads
  • How to tell your supplier what plating spec to use – well written processing orders
  • How to tell if your plating certifications reflect what the actual requirement is
  • What has changed recently in plating specifications and why it matters
  • The risks involved with plating and coating fasteners and how to manage them
  • How coatings are tested and measured
  • What coatings cause and what coatings prevent Hydrogen Embrittlement
  • What do plating standards require regarding baking and testing for Hydrogen Embrittlement Relief
  • What are some of the new coatings for fasteners and how to specify them

Fastener Platings and Coatings is intended for all levels of experience. If you are new to fasteners you will come away with a wealth of knowledge and a solid understanding of the coatings used in the fastener industry.

This is a hands-on, interactive training program. Attendees will conduct fastener testing, search through standards for answers to important fastener coating questions, process decisions for selection of fastener finishes, and test their knowledge about fastener platings and coatings

If you are new to the fastener industry, or if you are involved in post-processing of fasteners this is a must-have training program.

If you are a seasoned professional, you will get up-to-date information on important changes that have taken place in the coatings world.

You’ll also learn how to manage the potential risks associated with some coatings for fasteners and get some valuable resources to help keep your organization up to speed on this important topic.
