Fundamental Fastener Training

The Fastener Training Institute’s core purpose is to enhance fastener use, safety and reliability. To that end we have put together both advanced and basic fastener training courses. Our fundamental fastener classes are taught yearly; dates for each class offered are listed on the Schedule of Courses page. Click on a class to view the course details and to register online.

Registration fees include:

A full day of training in a small-group environment Training materials to take back to the job, including an illustrated manual Continental breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks Certificate of completion

People new to the fastener industry Those who need to know more about the products they sell Warehouse, sales and purchasing employees

Three-Day Product Training Program

This three-day program was designed to teach employees in the fastener industry about the products they buy, sell and warehouse. While it is intended for people new to the industry, it will be beneficial for all who want to expand their knowledge. Each class is a full day of training. To complete the Product Training Program students must attend all three classes and pass a final take-home exam. Classes are taught by recognized industry specialists and include every-day hands-on case studies and lots of real-life information.

Product Training Program Part #1:

Would you like to know the difference between a hex head cap screw and a hex bolt? What is tensile strength? How are fasteners made? Find the answers to these and other commonly asked questions at Part #1 of FTI’s Product Training Program. The curriculum for Part #1 of the Product Training Program will cover: Hex Head Products Nuts Sockets Products Common Materials Methods of Manufacturing Consensus Standards How To Call Out Parts How To Use the IFI Manual What Size is the Screw?

Product Training Program Part #2:

Do you know the difference between Taptite® and TT? Why must high strength parts be baked after plating? What does UNC-2A mean? Find the answers to these and other commonly asked questions at Part #2 of FTI’s Product Training Program. The curriculum for Part #2 of the Product Training Program will cover: Screw Drives Screw Head Styles Screw Threads Washers Coatings and Finishes Hydrogen Embrittlement Demo Large Threaded Fasteners Thread Call-Outs Thread Forms and Fit Product Training Program Part #3: What’s the difference between inch and metric fasteners? The new employee in the fastener industry faces a bewildering assortment of parts, each in a variety of sizes and finishes. To help smooth the transition from a mistake-prone rookie to an efficient member of your workforce, FTI offers this basic fastener class, which combines the highlights of the three-day Product Training Program into one full day of valuable, fundamental information.

The curriculum for Fastener Basics will cover: Basic Terminology How To Call Out Parts Hex Head Products Large Threaded Fasteners Nuts Socket Products Common Materials Screw Drives Screw Head Styles Screw Threads Washers Rivets Coatings and Finishes Self-Locking and Sealing Metric Dates and locations subject to change. The Fastener Training Institute reserves the right to change instructors or cancel seminars and cannot be held responsible for costs incurred other than the registration fee. Our fundamental fastener classes are also available to be taught on-site where requested.
